Historical Pens » Houston Pen |
|
Early Texas patriots had fascinating penmanship. In researching Texas Hero years ago, I had occasion to pore over copies of letters by the likes of Stephen F. Austin, William B. Travis, Thomas J. Rusk, and others. Austin’s hand seemed too challenging (but later inspired Austin Pen). Young, brave Travis wrote his last during the Alamo siege. Rusk’s suited my original task. But another style caught my eyethe bold yet graceful strokes of Sam Houston, the Texas hero. Much like the man himself, Houston Pen exudes a certain grandness, openness, clarity, and style.* $39 | Order
To learn a little more about Sam Houston, visit The Antique Penmanour blog celebrating handwriting and old letterswhere Brian Willson devotes an installment (“Sam Houston Talks”) to Houston’s many correspondences with Native Americans during his two terms as President of the Republic of Texas (183638, 184144). For exhaustive information about the man, visit The Handbook of Texas Online. |
